Segment 6: Love Is For Ever

CHAPTER 6:

Ek Duje Ke Vaaste
Love Is For Ever

Date: 6th June, 2009

Lovy wished there was some way to shut off her overactive imagination. The last two days had been real torture. She kept fighting with some insistent, not to mention, foolish images. Her mind playing tricks on her, she found herself basking in the pretense that she and Aditya were together. It was a tempting fantasy and a dangerous one. She kept recalling that touch of Aditya’s; when she had gone to confront him; and blushed every now and often. She wasn’t sure why she was embarrassed exactly. It wasn’t like they never touched. But she felt guilty, given the riot of misplaced emotions in her head. Then, at nights, she cried herself to sleep, longing for Aditya’s breath, his touch, his eyes, but most of all, his love.

I’d do anything to be with him again. But, why?

Lovy frowned as her stomach quivered in response. She was familiar with the feeling, but it didn’t make sense that, after all these years, she’d experience it now. Surely, if she was going to develop a crush on Aditya, it would have happened a long time ago. Studying her thoughts, she tried to convince herself that it wasn’t true, that it was just her runaway imagination again. But then Aditya’s face flashed in front of her eyes, and she felt the telltale warmth in her cheeks.

No! Lovy groaned silently. She couldn’t handle a case of these conflicting emotions anymore. She would have to face them. “No use running away from the truth, Ayu Baby… no use!” she told herself and then jumped on realising it wasn’t she who was talking, these were Aditya’s words... her Adi’s words, coming right from her heart.

Date: 7th June, 2009

Apoorva: (tapping Aditya’s head) Lo! Aa gayi tumhari Ayu. Kaash thode din baad aati, to hume thoda aur chain mil jaata, nahi?

The sudden sparkle in Aditya’s eyes did not go unnoticed by Apoorva.

Apoorva: Ab jao, mil bhi lo ussey… itni eagerness mujhse nahi dekhi ja rahi.
Aditya: (irritably) Please, Kuhu Didi… aap jaaiye. Mujhe nahi milna kisise.
Apoorva: Ya-ya… milna nahi to na sahi… dinner ke liye to aaoge na?
Aditya: Ji… bas ye chapter finish karke aa raha hoon…

Aditya indicated the leather bound diary he was holding in his hand. Apoorva made a face.

Apoorva: (warningly) Aur ab time aa gaya hai is diary ko uski original place pe rakhne ka, wo bhi Lovy ke dekhne se pehle. Warna, hum dono gaye kaam se.
Aditya: (smiling) Don’t worry… maine Ayu se permission le li thi padhne ki.
Apoorva: Achha baba… jaldi se aao… dinner tumhari pyari angel ne banaaya hai.

She winked and went away. Aditya closed the diary and caressed the words embossed on the cover – Jab Dill Milley. Aditya sighed deeply. Kaash tum real life me bhi in emotions ko samajh paati, Ayu… to humare bhi dill mill hi jaate.

----------

Lovy ran down the steps and threw her arms around Aditya, taking him by surprise.

Ayu: Hye Adi! How’re you?

Aditya knew that Lovy generally wasn’t that demonstrative, but she always made an effort with him. He enveloped her in his arms, giving her a tight squeeze before letting her go. Lovy’s breath caught at how good it felt to be held by someone so close to her heart.

Adi: (stepping back a little and drawing out a chair for Lovy) Fine.
Ayu: (sitting down) Oh… ok, thanks.

She crossed her arms against the cold and an unwarranted sense of disappointment at being let go so soon. Lovy had nearly forgotten that she and Aditya were not on talking terms now. Now – she didn’t know. Maybe it was the feeling of seeing him for the first time in forever. Suddenly, there was something about him that affected her heart, and it was startling.

The dinner started. Everyone was busy in their own chatter. Mamma was chiding Daddy for losing weight; Apoorva was asking Lovy how the trip had been. Aditya remained silent and aloof. Finishing his dinner, he was just thinking how to excuse himself out from there, when Lovy interrupted his thoughts.

Ayu: Dinner achha nahi bana kya, Adi?

Aditya looked up, surprised. She always did that, he mused. When he didn’t push himself out there to make sure he got noticed, most people forgot he was around, but she never had. Never!

Mamma: Kya hua beta? Ab to fever nahi hai na? Khana achhe se kyun nahi kha rahe ho?
Adi: (smiling at her care) Aunty Ji… aap bahut jaldi pareshaan ho jaati hain. Maine kha to liya khana… aur kitna achhe se khaun?
Apoorva: Mamma ka matlab hai, do roti se kya hota hai… kum se kum dus-bees khao aur mote ho jao. Waise bhi, do din me sabhi ne bahut weight lose kar liya hai… hai na, Daddy?
Daddy: (smiling) Ye to tum apni Mamma se hi poochho… (seeing Mamma glaring at himself) waise hum kisi ki yaad me duble-patle ho jaayein, to isme humari kya galti?

Mamma’s glare converted into a flush while Aditya’s mouth quirked into a grin, and Lovy stared almost dumbly. He’s too cute, she thought, surprised. She shouldn’t have been. After all, everyone knew that Aditya had been the chocolate boy at school. But this was different. She wasn’t seeing him as a friend right now. She was seeing him as a person who had just stolen her heart with his smile- and she knew it would never be returned.

----------

Lovy knocked at the guest room door. Aditya turned his head a little, saw Lovy, put the JDM Diary on the table and dropped back on the bed, facing the wall. He did all this so quickly that Lovy could barely control her laughter. Oh yeah, he had every right to be angry!

Lovy pushed Aditya a little, creating space for her to sit down on the bed. Aditya did not turn.

Ayu: (as sweetly as she could) Adi…

Lovy’s voice acted as the ‘play’ button. Aditya turned, sat up and started reading the diary again.

Ayu: Kaise ho Adi? Ab tabiyat kaisi hai?
Adi: Fine.
Ayu: Bangalore kab ja rahe ho?
Adi: 12th June.
Ayu: (thunder-struck) Itni jaldi?

Aditya did not deem it important to answer that question.

Ayu: (sincerely) I missed you a lot, Adi. Tumne mujhe miss kiya?
Adi: (curtly) Bilkul bhi nahi.

Aditya gazed at Lovy while she looked away at his answer. He knew something was wrong with Lovy, but he had no idea what it was. It bothered Aditya. And it confused him. Relaxing on the bed in front of her, Aditya studied Lovy out of the corner of his eyes. He wasn’t imagining it. She was tense.

Adi: Tum kya karne ki koshish kar rahi ho?
Ayu: (still averting her eyes from him) Main… kya?
Adi: (shaking the diary in front of her eyes and demanding) Ye tum Ridhimaa ke saath kya kar rahi ho? Kyun de rahi ho usey itni takleef? Armaan Ridhimaa se pyar kyun nahi karta?
Ayu: (shocked) Tumhe ye kaise pata chala? Maine to 6th chapter likhna abhi tak start bhi nahi kiya hai.
Adi: Wo… maine rough draft padha tha…
Ayu: (fiercely) Mujhse bina poochhe?
Adi: Tumse poochhta to tum kabhi nahi padhne deti. Waise bhi, I wanted to read it all, before leaving for Bangalore. Anyways, leave it. Just answer my question. Tum Ridhimaa ke saath ye kya…
Ayu: (snapping) Wahi kar rahi hoon jo tumhare saath kiya.
Adi: (after a brief pause) Fiction aur real life me fark hota hai, Ayu.
Ayu: Koi fark nahi hota… aur hota bhi hai, to is story me nahi hoga. Agar main tumhe takleef de sakti hoon, to Ridhimaa ko bhi de sakti hoon.
Adi: Lekin kyun? Kyun kar rahi ho aisa?

Lovy remained silent. Silence was the answer for all questions. She had learnt this from her bestest friend only.

Adi: Tum kabhi mujhe jawaab kyun nahi…

Aditya stopped himself but Lovy had got his point.

Isiliye tum mujhe chhod kar ja rahe ho, right?
Adi: Ayu… main tumse gussa nahi hoon…
Ayu: (frustration and the tears she was trying not to shed, sharpening her voice) Tum… tum… Adi… tum mere liye bahut, bahut important ho… main tumhe kabhi khona nahi chaahti… tum kyun ja rahe ho… aur… main… aur…

Lovy burst into tears. Aditya understood the matter in seconds. After all, he was her best friend. He knew exactly the thoughts which Lovy was trying hard to conceal in her heart.

Adi: Mujhe tumhare aansuon se takleef hoti hai, Ayu…

Lovy looked up at Aditya in pure shock. So sweet of him!

Ayu: (smiling) Shut up!

Sweet of her!

Ayu: Adi…

Lovy used it as an excuse to touch Aditya’s knee to get his attention. She frowned when he stiffened, recoiling from her while barely moving. Glancing at Lovy’s hand still resting against his jeans, Aditya shifted his legs, pulling his feet on to the bed away from her. It was subtle, and he didn’t mean for her to know what he was doing. But she did, and her fingers clenched against the strange sensation of warmth lingering on her palm. Their personal space issues had always been a joke between them, but Lovy didn’t like Aditya shying away from her. Not now. Not when she did unexpectedly want to be closer. Much closer.

Ayu: (holding Aditya’s hand) I’m sorry Adi… I’m… you are my best friend… more than a friend… I… I’m sorry…

Aditya, who had guessed it before she could say, pressed Lovy’s hand back. Lovy bathed in that comforting and soothing feeling.

Adi: (speaking, for the first time in his life) I love you, Ayu.

According to Lovy, that was not the typical "I love you" she had ever seen in DMG or in any of the movies. It was the real one... the best one... and the most touching one.

Lovy’s tears couldn’t be stopped. Their hands were interlocked, her fingers weaved through his. Aditya clasped Lovy into a tight hug. Hearts beating in syncopating rhythm, they both melted into each other’s arms. Eventually, Lovy slowly raised her head and started to open her mouth as if to speak, Aditya’s eyes motioned her to keep the quiet between them. He reached out and again took her hand in his. Placing it between his two hands, Aditya held it gently and without moving, caressed it. Lovy looked at Aditya’s hands holding hers and drifted in a deep thought.

When she looked up at Aditya, Lovy found him looking at her in a way he never had before. His eyes were so deep, so filled with emotions that she was almost hypnotized by his gaze upon her. Black clashed with brown. Lovy couldn’t stay still. She’d dreamed so many times of something like this happening, but it was always an anonymous face. She’d never given an identity to her fantasy lovers. It seemed presumptuous. But then, Aditya leant forwards until their noses touched, sending a shiver down her spine. He put his hand on Lovy’s cheek and most surprisingly, Lovy fell under Aditya’s spell with much ease.

Aditya smiled softly, pushed Lovy’s curls behind her ear and pulled her towards him. She stiffened at first, but gradually he felt her relax within his arms. His hands found their way to curly, black hair, and he tangled his fingers in it, bringing her head closer to his. Neither tried to move but their eyes pulled them together, and briefly, their lips met as their eyes closed. It was a shy little kiss. A moment only, and then they embraced. Their heads on each other’s shoulder, their eyes still closed, their arms holding tight. Neither would release the other. Neither would speak nor make any sound. Like this, they were one. Their souls joined as they embraced.

Together as they always wanted to be and wanted to be always.

When they separated, Lovy, owing to her newly found shyness, ran towards the door, where she stopped. She never expected all this to happen when she had entered through this door, that night. Turning around, she found Aditya sitting, his back against the pillow, eyes closed and lips smiling slightly... and... a tear shining on his cheek. Aditya opened his eyes and peered through hers, connecting directly with her soul. The moisture began to gather in Lovy’s eyes as well and she ran away from there, straight to her room.

He’s NOT coming back!

Lovy felt her head spinning. She’d been infuriated on Aditya’s behalf – she took loyalty to a whole new level – “Shut up,” she told Apoorva with the bluntness that characterized her friendship with Aditya.

Lovy: Adi waapas aayega. I know!
Apoorva: (loudly) He’ll not.
Lovy: (at the top of her voice) He WILL!!!
Apoorva: Wo kyun aayega waapas? Yahaan uska hai hi kaun?
Lovy: Hum sab hain…
Apoorva: We’re not his family! Di-Jiju Bangalore me hain… Adi bhi ab wahin rahega… college, career, job, family… uska future wahin hai.

Lovy was rendered tongue tied. Aditya, who had overheard this conversation, entered the room.

Ayu: (looking at Aditya, her eyes glowing) Adi! KuDi’s joking, right?

She knew Aditya had overheard them. She knew he had come there for her. She knew Aditya would soon sort out all the misunderstandings Apoorva had.

Adi: Ayu… mera admission Jeej ne Bangalore me kara diya hai…
Ayu: I know that… but you’re coming back, right? I mean, after the college… hai na?

Aditya was silent and Lovy was an expert at reading his silence.

Ayu: (demanding) You’re not coming back?
Adi: Ayu… tumhe pata hai na… main… I mean… meri kuch responsibilities hain… Di aur Jeej mere liye itna kuch kar rahe hain… main kaise unhe keh doon ki… Ayu, tum samajh rahi ho na?

Apoorva sensed that the matter was turning serious and sneaked out, leaving the two alone. Aditya walked towards Lovy, who was standing as still as a statue.

Adi: (holding Lovy by her shoulders) Ayu please… kuch to bolo…

Lovy kept staring at him, tears streaming down her face, each tear making Aditya feel guiltier than ever.

Adi: I’m sorry Ayu. Mujhe koi haq nahi hai ki main tumhe… I’m extremely sorry…

Lovy threw her arms around Aditya and leaned against him, ducking her head on his chest and reveling in the warmth of Aditya’s body pressed against her.

Adi: Ayu… I’m very sorr…
Ayu: (interjecting) Please Adi… don’t say sorry. Tumhari koi galti nahi hai…
Adi: Ayu… main tumhe kabhi…
Ayu: Adi please! Mujhe pata hai… you never wanted to hurt me. You can never hurt me, Adi… never! Tum to mujhse bahut, bahut, bahut, bahut, bahut…

She could go on endless times and still not define how much her Aditya loved her. Aditya writhed in the pain that shot through his heart at the moment.

Ayu: Bahut pyar karte ho… karte ho na?
Adi: (nodding) Ayu…
Ayu: Aur tumhe main is waqt rote hue bilkul achhi nahi lag rahi na?
Adi: (nodding) Aur main khud ko in aansuon ke liye kabhi maaf nahi karunga…
Ayu: (wiping her tears) Adi… you don’t need to do that… tumne kuch nahi kiya. Ye aansun tumhari wajah se nahi hain… aur... agar tum Di-Jiju ke liye apne pyar se door reh sakte ho… to main apna first love sacrifice nahi kar sakti kya?
Adi: Ayu… tumhe tumhara true love milega… second, third, fourth love… sab milenge…
Ayu: (not knowing whether Aditya was joking or not) Tumhe bhi. Isliye… abhi no rona-dhona, ok? Humare pass abhi Friday tak ka time hai.
Adi: Hmm… I’m really very…
Ayu: (agitated) Thappad khaoge agar sorry bola to. Humari friendship me ‘sorry’s aur ‘thankyou’s ki koi jagah nahi hai…
Adi: I love you, Ayu…
Ayu: (absorbing her tears and putting on a fake smile that wrenched Aditya’s heart) Much better…

Holding his own tears back, Aditya nonchalantly tore away from her pale arms, took her hand in his, and gave it a light squeeze, silently telling her that everything would be okay. Then, he turned around and walked away from Lovy, looking at the floor, hands buried in his pockets, broken hearted.

Soon, he disappeared through the door, leaving the miserable girl to stand by herself under the weight of this harsh reality. She didn’t hold back her tears now, and fell to her knees, hands clutching her chest as if doing so, she would stop the pain.

--------------

Date: 9th June, 2009

I’m going to miss you.

Aditya whispered, swallowing audibly. He really didn’t know how he was going to handle living without her. Everything had been so perfect… well, close to perfect, and now it was all going to be taken away from him. It was unfair – it didn’t feel right.

I can’t go. I won’t go. I’m not going!!!

Aditya had already gone through this stage of denial. He realised it was time for him to recognize that he had to make the most of every single moment, otherwise some major regrets were going to come out of this.

So, he just focused on twisting his fingers around Lovy’s curly hair and looking at her, so that he could imprint her face in his head without ever fearing forgetting it. If this was how he got by everyday, how was he supposed to go without it? It was a question that Aditya had absolutely no answer to.

Ayu: (naughtily) I’ll miss you more than you will… you’ll have all those new girls, swooning upon you…

Lovy started to laugh at Aditya’s face.

Adi: (pleading, cutting her off) Bas! You know you’re the only girl for me. The only one! My only angel.

Aditya paused.

Adi: Aur… mujhe jaaney ke baare me nahi sochna abhi.

Moving made Aditya want to think about it more, more self pity and pain. He didn’t want that, not now, not now while he was just inches away from her. Soon enough he wasn’t going to be just a short distance away from her, somehow never close enough. He was going to thousands of miles away, and this was all they had left.

Ayu: Ok.

Lovy rested her head back against his shoulder and closed her eyes for what seemed like not enough time. There were just not enough hours in a day, and not enough minutes in a movie for them to do this… this – just being with each other.

They walked out of the cinema once it had finished. Lovy hadn’t even seen one bit of it, and neither had Aditya, so talking about it wasn’t an option. Aditya had already forgotten what they went to see by the time they reached the car park. Daddy wasn’t there yet to pick them up so they sat on the edge of the garden. Both sat in silence, the sun beating down from a cloudless blue sky, which looked so simple and beautiful. Like a kid’s drawing. Lovy wanted to scream up at it in disgust. Nothing’s that simple! Don’t lie to me!

Ayu: (murmuring) Main aaj aakhiri baar yahaan aayi hoon… I’m not coming back here, ever.

She rested her head lightly against him and looked around sadly. Lovy had promised herself not to be this way – it was hard not to mention she wouldn’t be here again, with him, with his arm tightly around her, his breath wafting her dark hair ever so slightly. Aditya rolled his eyes and smiled faintly.

Adi: Aisa kyun sochti ho Ayu… it’s not the last time. You’ll be here again… with your family, friends, best friends…
Ayu: (stubbornly) I’m not making any more friends and I’m not coming back here.
Adi: Ayu… tum…
Ayu: Mujhe aur koi nahi chahiye… tumhare baad main kisi ko apne kareeb nahi aane dungi… you’ll be my only best friend… forever.
Adi: Ayu, please try to understand Baby!

He stroked her arm with his hand that was around her shoulders.

Adi: Don’t think about it that way.

He said quietly, and then turned serious.

Adi: Tumhe lagta hai, tumhari ye baat sun kar main bahut khush hoon?

Lovy swallowed hard.

Adi: Ye guilt ki maine apni zindagi se uski zindagi chheen li… ye guilt mujhe kabhi jeene nahi dega Ayu.
Ayu: (moved at hearing these words and seeing Aditya’s eyes blinking away the tears) Aise mat bolo Adi… please!
Adi: To fir, tum promise karo… meri Ayu Baby kabhi nahi royegi… mere jaane ke baad bhi tum khush rahogi… promise me.

He stretched out his right palm.

Ayu: (putting her left hand on his) Main ye promise nahi kar sakti Adi… but, haan… itna zaroor keh sakti hoon ki zinda rahungi… bilkul usi tarah, jis tarah abhi hoon…
Adi: Tum abhi bhi khush nahi ho na?
Ayu: Nahi… tumhe aise dekh kar main kabhi khush nahi ho sakti.
Adi: (puzzled) Kaise dekh kar?
Ayu: (caressing his cheek slightly with her lips) These tears don’t suit your face, Adi.
Adi: Hmm… sab… sab theek ho jaayega Ayu.

Lovy kept gazing at Aditya. She was trying so, so, so hard to believe him. She could’ve easily, a few days ago, when she didn’t know what would happen, especially with Aditya’s sweet determined expression and believing brown eyes. But she knew what she knew now, and it was hard to believe that everything would be alright.

Adi: (holding Lovy tightly against him and kissing her hair gently) I will do anything to make sure you’re happy. I promise.

Lovy nodded woodenly. She believed that. If there was someone in the world, who could do anything for a smile on her face, his name would be Aditya for sure.

Ayu: (declaring) I’m happy Adi. I’ll be happy for you…
Adi: Humesha?
Ayu: (smiling) Humesha waala humesha.

Aditya stood up, still holding her hand. Lovy was wondering whether they would ever let go of each other. It seemed like a stupid concept to think of, because frankly she never did want to let go of him. She was so scared… so scared that she wanted to hold him forever, not letting go, in case he disappeared into thin air.

Daddy parked up the street, not bothering to drive into the car park of the cinema.

Ayu: (looking at Aditya, a gleam in her eyes) Race ya!
Adi: You’re on!

They let go of each other’s hands and ran full speed to the car. Both slammed up against the back seat door at the same time.

TIE!’ they both shouted in unison.

Date: 10th June, 2009

Adi: (insisting) Ayu chalo na, please!

Lovy waited out both the joyful flutter of her heart and the nervous clench of her stomach before answering Aditya.

Ayu: Mera bilkul mood nahi hai aaj… and I’m also not feeling too well…

She replied, ignoring the internal voice telling her to take what she could, make some memories. But she knew it was risky. She could give away her recent surge of feelings and that was unacceptable. Unfortunately, Mamma didn’t know that.

Mamma: Kyun? Kya hua? Abhi tak to theek thi… chali jao. Fir jab Adi chala jaayega, tab baithi rehna ghar pe.

Lovy started to argue, but Aditya snagged her elbow.

Adi: Looks like you’re stuck with me.
Ayu: Ok, fine… I’ll come. Tum jao… main thodi der me aaungi.
Adi: (suspiciously) Fir se koi bahaana to nahi banaogi?
Mamma: Main dekhungi kaise bahaana banaati hai. Tum jao beta.

Lovy scowled.

Adi: (shooting back) Thanks a lot Aunty Ji.

Shubham: Kya hua yaar? Ayushi nahi aayi ab tak?
Faiz: Humesha to sabse pehle aa jaati hai…
Richa: Aaj nahi aana hoga.
Adi: (glancing out of the window) Aaj zaroor aayegi…
Sukanya: (whispering) Haan-haan zaroor aayegi… tumhe hum sabke saath akela enjoy thode hi karne degi…
Adi: Excuse me? Kya kaha aapne?
Sukanya: Kuch nahi… waise ab hum chalte hain… it’s getting late.
Aman: Haan yaar, thanks for the dinner…
Richa: (getting up) We’ll miss you, Adi.

Aditya smiled at the genuineness of her tone.

Adi: I’ll miss you all too.

He saw them all to the door. Shubham, Richa, Aman and Sukanya left.

Adi: (looking surprisingly at Faiz who had re-entered the house after him) Kya hua? Tumhe nahi jaana kya?
Faiz: Haan… soch raha hoon, aaj se yahin reh loon.
Adi: What?
Faiz: Chill yaar, Ayushi se mil ke jaunga.
Adi: Wo agar nahi aayi to?
Faiz: Tumne hi to kaha tha, wo aaj zaroor aayegi…
Adi: (dejectedly) Haan… pata nahi… shaayad na aaye…

He looked up, totally confused and saw Faiz frowning.

Faiz: Ladaayi ho gayi hai kya tum dono ki?
Adi: (surprised at this sudden remark) Nahi to… kyun?
Faiz: To fir, tum Bangalore kyun ja rahe ho? Mujhe to laga tha ki…

He paused but then couldn’t hold the thought inside him anymore.

Faiz: Adi, sach-sach bataana… don’t you like her?
Adi: Whom?
Faiz: Ayushi, you idiot!

Aditya was mute. He couldn’t tell Faiz. He wouldn’t tell Faiz.

Faiz: Tumhe pata hai na… khaamoshi ka matlab…
Adi: (weakly) Khaamoshi ka matlab humesha positive nahi hota… sometimes, silence denotes helplessness too…
Faiz: Helplessness?
Adi: Yes, HELPLESSNESS! Understood?
Faiz: (rubbing his ear) Yeah, okay… chilla kyun rahe ho?
Adi: Aur ab tumhe jaana chahiye… nahi aane waala koi yahaan pe.
Faiz: Lekin Ayushi…
Adi: (impatiently) Maine kaha na, ab wo nahi aayegi…

To contradict his statement, Lovy appeared at the door, the very next second.

Ayu: So, it means I should go home now?
Adi: (looking at Faiz) Haan… main kitni baar kahun?

Then he realised that Faiz had not spoken even a word.

Adi: (turning towards the door) Tum?
Faiz: (trying to make peace) Hye Ayushi…
Adi: (crossly) Tum ab kyun aayi? Na aati…
Ayu: Maine socha tha na aane ka, fir socha ki tumhe bura lagega… isliye aa gayi. But tumhe agar mera aana bura lag raha hai, to theek hai… Faiz, mujhe ghar drop kar do.
Faiz: (going upto Lovy) Haan, chalo… bye Adi…
Adi: Bye…
Ayu: Bye Adi…
Adi: (piercing her with his gaze) Main tumhe drop kar doonga… bye Faiz.

Faiz went away, smirking.

Ayu: To chalo, drop kar do…
Adi: Thodi der baad…
Ayu: Tab tak main kya yahin khadi rahun?
Adi: Nahi… mere sir pe aake baith jao…
Ayu: Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. Main khud ghar chali jaungi…

Lovy turned towards the door dangerously, half-wishing Aditya to stop her and the other half of her heart telling her to run away from there… from Aditya… from everything.

Adi: (sullenly from behind) Maybe I should just go tomorrow.
Ayu: (surprised, turning her head) What’re you talking about?
Adi: Tumhe shaayad mera yahaan hona achha nahi lag raha… you don’t seem to want me to stay any longer here.

Lovy cringed. Why was Aditya like this? He had apparently picked up on how, for the sake of self-preservation, she’d been keeping her distance.

Ayu: (exclaiming) Of course, I want you to stay! I mean... if you want to. Tumhe koi force nahi kar raha. Sabko achha lagega agar tum...

She was babbling, but she couldn’t seem to help it.

Adi: (showing the first sign of hospitality) Andar aa jao, Ayu…
Ayu: Oh, yeah…

She stepped inside and locked the door behind her. As soon as she did that, the lights went off. Lovy screamed.

Adi: (worried) Kya hua?
Ayu: (yelling) ADI! LIGHT CHALI GAYI!! ADI!!!
Adi: Wo to mujhe dikh raha hai… I mean, mujhe pata hai light chali gayi… tum chillana band karo, please…
Ayu: Adi, lights on karo… RIGHT NOW!!! Mujhe dar lag raha hai…
Adi: To darti raho… but, chilla kar mujhe kyun dara rahi ho? Main candles dhoondh raha hoon… mil nahi rahi… be patient…
Ayu: Telephone rack ke neeche rakhi hogi… jaldi dhoondho… lights aise kaise chali gayi… inverter ko kya ho gaya… aur tum apne pass torch kyun nahi rakhte ho… mobile kahaan hai tumhara… zaroorat padne par hi kho jaata hai tumhara sab kuch… abhi candles nahi mil rahi… candles milengi to matchbox dhoondhoge… kuch sambhal ke rakhna nahi aata… jaldi karo… warna main ja rahi hoon… Adi tum sun rahe ho na? Adi!!??
Adi: (hitting his head in frustration) Do you leave me any other option, Ayu? Sab sun raha hoon… and you stay where you are… and shut up for a while!

The only sound that emerged now was of Aditya hitting his leg on the telephone rack, rummaging the rack’s contents to search for the candle and then the flicker of the matchstick.

Adi: (holding the alight candle in his hand and looking around) Ayu? Kahaan ho?

Then he saw in the light from the candle, Lovy standing with her back against the door, her body stiff and her terror-stricken eyes closed tightly. He went upto her. Lovy’s face looked even more beautiful in the glow of the candle and Aditya had to stop himself from blowing the candle out as he inched closer.

Adi: (very softly) Ayu…

Lovy opened her eyes which widened on seeing Aditya so close to her. His brown eyes fixed at her in a dreamy stare.

Ayu: Wo… light chali gayi thi… mujhe dar lag raha tha…
Adi: (getting back to his senses) I know…
Ayu: Main… I’m… I’m a real coward!
Adi: (enraged) You’re not!
Ayu: I am! Mujhe… mujhe…
Adi: (gently) You’re just claustrophobic. Tumhe bas iska dar hai… aur kuch nahi…
Ayu: (reminding him) Mujhe fail hone se bhi dar lagta hai…
Adi: (smiling) Haan, because…
Ayu: (adding) Aur mujhe tumhare gusse se bhi dar lagta hai…
Adi: (trying to get in a word) Ayu…
Ayu: (looking into his eyes) Aur mujhe tum…

She didn’t finish but closed her eyes.

Adi: Aur tumhe apnon ko kho dene se bhi dar lagta hai, right?
Ayu: (opening her eyes, tears forming in the corners of her eyes) Haan…
Adi: Sabko lagta hai Ayu… hum me se koi bhi apnon se door nahi jaana chaahta… and there’s no one who’s not scared of failure. Aur jahaan tak gusse ki baat hai… to… mujhe bhi to tumhare gusse se dar lagta hai…
Ayu: Adi! I’m serious!
Adi: I’m serious too. You are a brave girl, Ayu… tumhe jis cheez se dar lagta hai… tum usey face karne ka hausla rakhti ho… tum haar ke nahi baithti… gir ke khud sambhalti ho aur apne raaste khud banaati ho… that’s called courage. You never stop trying, do you?
Ayu: Main haar to gayi na Adi…
Adi: Kissey, Baby?
Ayu: Zindagi se…

Lovy never wanted Aditya to know about her mental state. But she couldn’t help herself from confessing. She could see the guilt of having hurt her, lurking in Aditya’s eyes and decided that she didn’t want to stay there even for a second longer. She couldn’t see him like that.

Ayu: (abruptly) Mujhe ghar jaana hai…
Adi: (retorting) Maine tumhe kidnap nahi kiya hai. Jaana hai to jao, main nahi rokunga tumhe… kabhi nahi rokunga.
Ayu: Adi… I’m…
Adi: Tumhari galti nahi hai. Mujhe laga tha ki tum shaayad mere saath akele time spend karna chaahogi…
Ayu: To kya yahaan khade-khade time spend karna hai? Chalo andar.

Lovy took the candle from Aditya and led the way inside. She first took another candle from the rack and then proceeded towards the dining table.

Ayu: (sitting down on a chair) Tumne to dinner kar liya hoga…
Adi: (occupying the chair next to her) Faiz ne force kiya, to…
Ayu: Koi baat nahi… mujhe company dene ke liye thoda sa aur kha lo…
Adi: I’m already full… mujhe nahi khaana…
Ayu: Aise kaise nahi khaana? Main kya akele khaungi? Open your mouth, quick!

Aditya obliged and Lovy popped the piece of chapatti into his mouth.

Ayu: Good boy. Ab baaki apne aap khao, main nahi khilaane waali…
Adi: (asking hesitatingly) Main tumhe khilaun?
Ayu: (happily) Poochh kyun rahe ho? Go on… waise kaafi saari dishes banaayi hain tumne… good job!

There was a complete silence while Lovy had dinner. The candle grew smaller between the two. The molten wax being the sole witness of this beautiful moment. Seeing the candle just about to go off, Lovy lit another candle and put it in the stand. Silence still enveloped the two of them as they watched the first candle slowly dying out.

Ayu: (breaking the silence) Wo song is situation ko bahut suit kar raha hai na?
Adi: Kaun sa?
Ayu: MKRM song – Kabhi khwaab sisakte hain, kabhi toofaan guzarte hain, kabhi tanha hi marte hain…
Adi: Tumhe aisa kyun lag raha hai?
Ayu: Us candle ko dekho… usne apni poori life sisakte hue hume roshni di… andhere me humara saath diya… but, is waqt hum uska saath nahi de sakte… uske khwaab poore nahi kar sakte… wo tanha hi mar jaayegi…

Aditya gaped at Lovy. He admired the poetess in her, fascinated the way she poured her soul out in her stories… but this tender heart, which pained to see others in pain; he loved it, worshipped it. He realised what he was doing. He was going to hurt the world’s most tender and compassionate heart and he knew he would never forgive himself for that. Never!

Adi: (confessing) Kabhi-kabhi hum itne selfish ho jaate hain ki khud ko jalne se bachaane ke liye, doosron ko akela tadapta chhod dete hain…
Ayu: (still in the philosophical state of mind) It’s not fair! Hum aise kyun ho jaate hain, Adi? Hum kyun uska saath nahi dete, jisne sabse mushkil waqt me humara saath diya? Kyun?
Adi: (the words hammering into his ears) Main majboor hoon Ayu…
Ayu: (startled) Haan?
Adi: Main tumhara saath nahi de sakta… lekin…

He stared at the candle and then, without thinking, put his hand over the burning flame.

Adi: (continuing) Lekin uska saath zaroor doonga, jisne is waqt me humara saath diya…
Ayu: (stunned) Adi! What’re you doing? Paagal ho gaye ho kya?
Adi: (closing his eyes from the pain) Nahi Ayu… tumhe bas ye samjha raha hoon… ki jo log apnon ko akela chhodte hain… wo sab selfish nahi hote… kuch majboor bhi hote hain… meri tarah…
Ayu: Adi… tumhara haath… jal jaayega…
Adi: Jalne do, lekin main us waqt tak is candle ka saath dunga… jab tak ye candle bujh nahi jaati.

It was Lovy’s turn to stare at Aditya. She had never imagined that Aditya would take her nonsense chatter so seriously. How could he even think that she was calling him selfish? How could he? With one swift look at Aditya’s determined face, Lovy placed her hand between the flame and Aditya’s palm and brought it down over the candle. The flame died.

Ayu: (announcing) Bujh gayi candle.

Aditya’s eyes found Lovy’s as he took her hand in his. The place where the candle’s flame had made contact with Lovy’s palm was wounded.

Adi: (without looking at Lovy) Main medicine leke aata hoon…
Ayu: (pulling her hand off) Mujhe nahi lagwaani… dard hoga…
Adi: Jitna abhi ho raha hai, ussey kum hoga…
Ayu: Mujhe fir bhi nahi lagwaani… tum apna haath dikhao…

And without waiting for an answer, Lovy grabbed Aditya’s hand before he could pull it away.

Ayu: (slightly touching the wounded area and wincing herself) It’s hurting na?

Aditya fell in love with Lovy, all over again, seeing her eyes, so full of pain he wasn’t feeling.

Adi: (smiling) You know Ayu; you’ve got to watch out when the next candle blows off.
Ayu: (bewildered) Why?

Aditya’s eyes gave her the answer and she blushed.

Ayu: Mujhe ghar jaana hai…
Adi: Ek minute ruko… I’ll just bring it…

He stood up and turned to leave.

Ayu: (standing up too) Mujhe medicine nahi lagwaani… main nahi…
Adi: Tum ruko to…

He went away in the darkness.

----------

The velvet box encased the delicate silver ring, with little diamonds adorning the letter ‘A’.

Ayu: (her face radiant) Its sooooo beautiful! Tumne kharidi?
Adi: Hmm… jab hum log Canada gaye the na, Di-Jeej ke pass… tab Ma ke saath kharidi thi… tumhare liye.
Ayu: Mere liye?
Adi: Haan… this was your 17th birthday gift… jo maine tumhe kabhi nahi diya.
Ayu: Haan… salwar-suit dena yaad rehta hai… ring nahi di…
Adi: Agar us din wo salwar-suit nahi deta… to tum ladkiyon waale kapdey nahi pehenti na… aur na hi aaj mere liye ye suit pehen ke aati…
Ayu: Huh!
Adi: (smiling) Actually, Ma ne kaha tha ki ye ring tumhe kisi khaas occasion pe doon… us din ko special banaane ke liye.
Ayu: Aunty… Aunty jaanti thi ki tum… I mean…
Adi: Hmm… pata nahi Ma-Pa ko kaise pata chala… shaayad parents hote hi aise hain.

Lovy saw Aditya’s expressions changing and changed the subject.

Ayu: Aaj kaun si “khaas occasion” hai jo tum mujhe ye ring de rahe ho?
Adi: Koi nahi…
Ayu: Fir?
Adi: Kisi khaas occasion ka wait karne ke liye time nahi hai mere pass…

Again Lovy decided to change the subject.

Ayu: ‘A’ for…?
Adi: (promptly) Apple…
Ayu: (hitting Aditya’s forehead) Adi!
Adi: What? Ohh, this ‘A’? This ‘A’ stands for…

He glanced into her eyes.

Adi: My angel…

Lovy shook her face.

Adi: (adding) My Ayu…

Lovy raised her gaze and looked at him. Aditya dropped the ring in Lovy’s palm. Lovy, glad enough to find a reason to look away from Aditya and his unsettling gaze, started to put on the ring. Aditya watched her trying ineffectively to find the finger in which the ring would fit perfectly. In some it was loose and in some it was too tight. He had to speak when Lovy got the ring stuck in one of her fingers.

Adi: Tum kar kya rahi ho?
Ayu: Kyun? Dikh nahi raha? Ring fans gayi…
Adi: Tumhe ring pehenna aata bhi hai? Aise pehenti hain ring?
Ayu: Kisi bhi finger me fit nahi aa rahi…
Adi: Kaise aayegi? Har kaam jaldi karna hota hai. Thoda to patience rakhna seekho…

Aditya took her left hand and tried to pull out the ring which had got stuck in the fourth finger.

Adi: Lagta hai finger ka operation karwaana padega…
Ayu: (looking aghast) Kya?
Adi: Just joking, yaar! See… thoda sa twist kiya to ring aa gayi fit… tumhe hi pehenna nahi aata.
Ayu: (glancing at her hand) Mujhe sab aata hai…
Adi: Yes, of course, OC ki maharani!

He waited for Lovy to argue back. When she didn’t, he followed her gaze. Lovy was staring at her left hand in which Aditya had just placed the ring in the fourth finger. The situation took time to dawn upon Aditya and when it did; his grip on Lovy’s hand became tighter. Lovy tried to snatch her hand off but Aditya did not relent. He raised her hand and brushed his cold lips against it. The fingers clasped. Aditya opened his mouth as if to speak.

Angling away from him, Lovy tensed her back, ready to laugh off anything Aditya might say. But then, she’d expected him to speak, not act. Lovy didn’t know what to do when Aditya cupped her cheek and bent his head towards her. Strangely frightened as she realized he meant to kiss her, she shrank away. Nothing, but what Aditya said next could make her look at him again that night.

Adi: I love you, Ayu.
Ayu: (gazing into his eyes deeply) I…

Her voice was cut off as Aditya placed his hand on her lips, telling her voicelessly, not to complete her sentence. Not to declare. Not to confess.

Never confess!!!

An unknown power telling her what was going through Aditya’s mind; Lovy clung onto him, hugging him tight. Aditya held her tight, the unsaid emotions overpowering, the unshed tears overflowing. Lovy, still resting her head on Aditya’s shoulder, unzipped his T-shirt. Aditya tried to retreat.

What is she doing?

Adi: (taken aback by her actions) Ayu, what’re you…

He couldn’t complete as Lovy raised her wounded right hand and kept it on his chest.

Ayu: (like a kid asking for lollipop) Mujhe tumhare dil me apna naam sunna hai… lekin mujhe mera naam kyun sunaayi nahi de raha?

A smile flashed across Aditya’s face as he lovingly dragged Lovy’s hand from the right side of his chest to the left side; directly over his heart.

Adi: (whispering softly) Ab sunaayi de raha hai?
Ayu: (kissing Aditya’s heart and nodding) Hmm…

Lovy closed her eyes and listened to the soft thudding of his heart. Aditya kissed her forehead.

Adi: Tum mujhe kabhi bhool paogi, Ayu?
Ayu: Not till the day I die.
Adi: Ayu!
Ayu: (opening her eyes) Adi… main tumhe bhool jaungi to zinda kaise rahungi?
Adi: Aise mat bolo Ayu! Tum zinda rahogi… aur tum mujhe bhool jaogi… tum… tumhe kuch nahi hoga… you’ll be fine. You’ll be fine!

He embraced her once more, tightly, not caring about the tears forming in his own eyes.

Adi: You’ll be fine Ayu!
Ayu: (gasping for breath) Adi…
Adi: (tightening his hold on her) Tumhe kuch nahi hoga…
Ayu: (her voice cracking) Aaahh… Adi, please…

Aditya left her.

Adi: I’m sorry… I just… I didn’t want to hurt you.
Ayu: I know, Adi… I know.
Adi: Tum mujhe bhool jaana Ayu… please…
Ayu: Adi, I can’t forget you ever. Agar main tumse pyar nahi bhi karti, to bhi tumhe kabhi nahi bhoolti…
Adi: (protesting) Ayu please… meri yaadein tumhe sirf takleef dengi…
Ayu: Lekin mujhe unhi yaadon me jeena hai…
Adi: Tum mujhe bhool jaogi, Ayu…
Ayu: (adamant) Kabhi nahi…
Adi: (silencing her) Tumhe meri kasam.

None of them spoke for a few minutes.

Ayu: (at long last) Mujhe ghar jaana hai…

Aditya picked up the keys of his bike and led the way out. The second candle died out by itself this time, waiting for Aditya’s return.

Dill Mill Gaye to get back its Armaan?

With Riddhima finding the truth about Armaan, she now goes searching for her love in Star One's Dill Mill Gaye..With this, we wonder whether Karan Singh will stage a grand comeback to the show or not..

Star One's Dill Mill Gaye, produced by Cinevistas will see a big high point when Riddhima (Jennifer Winget) comes face to face with the real truth behind Armaan (Karan Singh Grover) leaving her.

Riddhima will be crestfallen when she gets to know that it was her father Dr. Shashank (Mohnish Behl) who had lied to her that Armaan had walked out of her life when she was lying unconscious after the bullet injury. And Riddhima had got to believe that Armaan could not take the extra baggage with the doctors telling that she might be handicapped for the rest of her life after the bullet had hit her spine.

But with the truth being out, our source tells us that Riddhima will go ballistic, and will run helter-skelter looking for Armaan.

According to our source, "The next few episodes will see the truth being revealed to Riddhima. And after this happens, the back story will be shown wherein the creatives are planning to give a justification to why Armaan readily agreed to go out of Riddhima's life. With the back story coming out, we will see a furious Riddhima going against her own father. Her only aim now will be to get Armaan back in her life".

"Also, another turning point will be when Dr. Siddhant( Karan Wahi) will also get to know that Riddhima and Armaan love each other. This will bring a major twist to the tale", adds our source.

Now comes the major question of whether Karan Singh Grover will return to the show as Armaan or not!!

To this, our source states, "Talks are surely on with Karan. The channel and production house are keen to get him back. But nothing is confirmed as of now".

We tried contacting Karan, but we heard that he has gone to his home town right now, and will be back to Mumbai on 25th January.

When contacted, Palki Malhotra, Script Head, Cinevistas told us, "Yes, the viewers have been waiting patiently for more than four months now, to see Armaan's comeback. But I can only tell that Armaan is and will always be an integral part of Dill Mill Gaye. We have always lived with the memories of Armaan-Riddhima love story, but wanted to play on another track of hate between Riddhima and Sid. The upcoming track will show a mellowed-down Siddhant".

When asked Palki about the big question of Karan coming back, she stated, "Well, I can only tell you that Dr. Armaan might come back, what with Riddhima desperately searching for him. But I cannot tell you whether it will be Karan Singh Grover or someone else who will be back as Armaan".

We tried to probe in, on whether Karan has been approached for the show, and she was quick to say, "I can't comment on this right now".

However, our source insists that there is a bright chance of Karan coming back to the show…

Now let's see whether we get to see Karan as Armaan, or we get to have a totally new Armaan….

Part 20: The Surprise

They had made the best of those five hourz. They enjoyed themselves to the fullest by fooling around the place, shopping insensibly, trying out a wierd lunch, n thn finally dancing to a hip hop crazy number. By the time they returned to the cruise, they were hell tired. Muskaan n Rahul had never turned up from the airport n Rahul had jus messaged tht they would join them at the cruise. Hell tired they wasted no time in lazing around anymore n the moment they boarded the ship back hit thr beds to relief the exhaustion.

Next morning was a beautiful one. A new beggining. Muskaan was all the more cheerful. Atul had given his consent regarding Rahul by jus whispering in her when he huuged her before leaving to patch up with him as hez a good guy. It brought tearz again in her eyes to think of how her brother understud her inspite of no wordz spoken. She coudn't wait to see him back once the trip was over.

Armaan in his naughty self troubled n teased Riddhima thruout the day inspite of her giving him deadly warnings. They all enjoyed the day unaware of any troubles tht may ever cross their lives.

The news came at around ten at night when Riddhima decided to check her mail n have some peace from his naughtiness. She returned back literally jumping around out of happiness.

"What happened Ridzi?? Whats the matter?"...Muskaan asked rather worried.

"Oh muski you won't beleve it....u jus won't beleve it"....she caught hold of Muskaan's hands and twirled her around.

The guyz watched rather confused n puzzled.

"What won't i beleve...tell me...what is it..."

"Muski i am soo happy....i am so so so happy......Its about Dee and Atul..."

"What about Bhai n Anji...will u tell me now.."

"Ok ok..." she stopped twirling and panted for a minute.. " Dee n Atul are getting married next month. I just now got thr mail. Can u beleve tht."

"Oh my god!! really....but Bhai was here jus yesterday...y din he tell me??"

"Oh Muski.....it got decided jus today....Atul told me to tell u n apologise on his bhalf for not conveying it himself....oh my god...i still dun beleve it..."

The girlz started with discussing thr plans rather forgetting the presence of Armaan N Rahul, who watched their kiddish loves rove about all wedding plannings. The excitement kept them awake till almost one when Rahul n Muskaan went off to get some sleep.

Armaan n Riddhima stood at the deck hand in hand watching the waves hit the ship. It was a peaceful sight.

"You know Armaan....i love the sea..its so calm out thr.."

"Hmmm"

"I am so happy Armaan.....u know Anjali dee getting married is not a joke....she is a very different person...she never supported marriage until she met Atul...i am so happy for her....."

"N i am happy for you....."He turned towardz her n cupped her face in his hands..."alwaz be happy like this my love....u look beautiful with a smile on ur lips."

She smiled wider n hugged him.

"We too will get married na Armaan ??"

"Ofcourse we will.....dun worry"

"Promise?"

"Promise....maybe right after Anjali its our turn"

"Armaan ??" she called him rather lost.

"hmm??"

"Will u ever break the promises u made to me today n before.?"

"Never Princess....Armaan Mallik never breaks his promises....."

"I love you Armaan"

"I love you too...n i alwaz will...no matter what."

They spent couple of days simply enjoying themselves n making plans for the wedding. Armaan n Rahul were eventually invited, if not from the brides side thn from the Grooms side.

Armaan enjoyed watching Riddhima's excitement over the marriage. Her childish behavioiur, her stubborness, her making faces. Each second they fell more in love with each other. Each second they sealed unspoken promises, planned a happy future n thought about thr marriage thruout it.

Armaan had decided to speak to his parents once they returned home. He wanted Riddhima in his life, as his wife. He knew thr would be no objections from his side. His parents had alwaz accepted his choice n knew they would be way too happy with Riddhima as a daughter in law. He would make their marriage special for her. He would give her every happiness he was capable of. While he made these silent promises to himself a whole different scenario was on the go in a different part of the world.

............................................................................................................................................................

Excitement was a permanent resident of Gupta household since the declaration of Atul and Anjali's wedding. Shashank was busy with all the necessary arrangements to be made. And Padma n Anjali in thr shopping spree. But today was special. They were gona have Shashank's childhood friend for dinner. It had been long since they met and preparations to welcome him were on the high.

"Padma....is everythng ready?? i mean the food n all..."

"Dun worry Shashank...its all ready...i can see how exciited u r to meet ur frnd."

"Ofcourse I am.....its been like 20 yearz...."

Just then the door bell rang and Shashank opened it. The families greeted each other and settled down in the living room having a nice warm chat recollecting old memories. They had a sumptous dinner and as the ladies got busy in their gossip so did the men.

Finally it was his friend who put up the question.

"Shashank....Anjali got fixed bfore we even got a chance to talk anythng....but as our old day promises...i would like to ask ur second daughterz hand in marriage for my son. What do u say??"

"Well what would i say other than a pleasant yes....we spoke about in our very own college days....its a sealed relation.....isn't it.?"

The ladies din object to the newly formed relationship. Except for Anjali., who spoke to Shashank after the guest had left.

"But dad shoudn't we ask Ridzi once?"

"I know Riddhima Anjali....she won't object. I am sure about it...anyway i dun want u to talk to her about this...once shez back i will myself do it...."

Anjali agreed rather reluctantly and called up Atul to discuss her worries. And as usual..once she spoke to him, her worries were lighter and she drifted off to sleep praying the best for all of them.

What eventually would turn out the best???

Part 27: Saccha Pyaar

Part 27
The Garewal House
Shubh and keerti looked at each other...
Rahul looked down as if he was convicted for a crime
Kee – sach me rahul? (she said with joy)
Rahul looked up.. he hadn’t expected keerti to take the news so calmly...
rah – aap ghussa nahi ho?
Shu – rahul.. maana ki keerti ko sab hitler bulaate .. oww (rubbing his shoulder)
Shubhankar had received a slap on the shoulder from keerti.. and frankly.. it was quite hard
Shu – kya hua? Mujhe maara kyu?
Kee – hitler to sab ko maarta hi hai na..
Shu – okay.. sorry baba
Rahul was laughing at shibhankar until keerti and shubh came back to the topic of rahul’s “love”
Kee – toh beta.. who’s the lucky girl??
Rahul was stuttering...
Rah – woh.. umm. Maa uska naam.. muskaan hai
Kee – muskaan?
Rah – ha
Shu – Dr. Muskaan Chadda from Sanjeevani? (shubh said with wide eyes)
Rah – ha.. she’s a senior doctor along with me?
Shu – no way!
Rahul was nervous.. he thought that shubhankar was going to refuse from accepting muskaan as his daughter-in-law.. but rahul was.... wrong ;)
Shu – yah to kitni acchi baat hai keerti!
Kee – rahul.. im glad tumne ussi se pyaar kiya
Rahul was not able to believe what he was hearing... he remembered that keerti and shubh were talking about getting rahul married to someone a few days ago..
Rah – sacch main?? I thought ki aap dono mujhe kissi aur ke saath shaadi karaane waale hai
Kee – beta.. woh hum..
Shu – muskaan ki hi baat kar rahe the!
Rah – toh uske parents ko bhi yeh rishte se kuch aitraaz nahi hoga?
Kee – nope..
Rahul hugged his parents and exclaimed – I Love You Both Sooo Much!! Your the best
Sanjeevani Orphanage
Abhi and Nikki were alone in their rooms.. and were both thinking about the most beautiful moment they shared.. their hug... abhi wanted to talk to nikki about his feelings.. he wanted to confess his love but was scared of her reaction.. on the other hand.. nikki was definitely falling in love with him.. but wanted him to make the first move. They both kept walking in their rooms and decided to go sit in the garden where they would be able to think peacefully in the open air.. they opened their doors.. and CRASH
Both had crashed into each other...
Nikki – oowwww (rubbing her forehead)
Abhi – he also said oooowww (but he was rubbing his chest)
Nikki was short... her forehead was by abhi’s chest... (the top part of his chest.. she wasn’t extremely short =P)
Nik – tum dekh kar nahi chal sakta the? Stupid
Abh – nikki.. maine kya kiya? Mujhe thodi na pata tha kit um bhi issi wakt apne kamre se niklogi
Nik – toh kya meri galti thi?
Abh – whatever..
Nik – ab aise haathi jaise kyu yahi khade ho? Mujhe jaane do...
Abh – main aur haathi? Never
Nik – whatever (copying abhi’s words)
Nikki started walking... and abhi also went behind her... nikki felt his presence and asked..
Nik – tum kyu mere picche aa rahe ho?
Abh – how did yu know that it was me?
Nik - pata nahi... i just know... lekin why are you following me?
Abh – oh hello miss.universe.. main tumhaara piccha nahi kar raha.. maint o garden main jaa raha tha..
Nik – main bhi wahi jaa rahi thi
Abh – toh chalo... saat main baithte hai
They went and sat on the bench... both dying to be in each other’s arms but unable to do so right then... kyunki confession scene abhi baaki hai mere dost
Nik – abhi... tumhe kaisi ladki chahiye? (she blurted out)
Nikki was quite surprised at what she had mentioned, but abhi didn’t mind
Abhi – bilkul tumhaari tarha (in his world.. when suddenly he realized that he actually said that to her) i mean.. wohh... yu know.. tumhaari tarha beautiful and cute.. (covering up for what he said earlier)
Nik – you think i’m beautiful?
Abh – very very beautiful..
Nikki looked down and a strand of her hair fell down her face, caressing her cheeks.. abhi took his hand and gently tucked the strand behind her ears... making nikki get more conscious of herself.. abhi removed his hand and looked away.. nikki also looked the other way.. “Awkwardness” was in the aire for them...
After about 5-6 minutes of pure silence, they started another conversation again.. they kept talking and talking for what would seem like hours to us, but only a few precious moments for them.. abhi was telling nikki a story about his and armaan’s prank on their history tacher in grade 6 when nikki silently fell asleep on abhi’s shoulder
Abh – a pure angel (he said while leaning his head on hers)
Canada
Arm – WHAT THE HELL!!!!!
Rid – kya hua? (ridz was literally scared to death by armaan’s sudden scream)
Armaan turned to riddhima’s face in slow motion.... and he mouthed a word... ridz didn’t understand
Rid – kyaa?? (she whispered)
Arm – its.... HAIL! (armaan burst out laughing)
Obviously, armaan had not known that it was hail, he was quite scared, but he didn’t want to make himself look like a fool.. so he pretended that he was just playing with her and teasing her
Rid – hail?
Armaan lifted the curtain and made ridz see for herself what really was attacking their window
Arm – tumhaara chehra dekhna chahiye tha basket... armaan! I think terrorists are attacking us!! (armaan mimicked her)
Riddhima threw her pillow at his face and got angry
Rid – don’t you dare say that you actually knew about it.. tumhe bhi toh aisa hi laga tha... remember... and riddhima.. agar kuch bhi hua.. toh always remember, i love you from the bottom of my heart jaan (she said mimicking him this time)
Arm – woh to main.. main (trying to defend his lies) i was just joking around with you...
Rid – ya sure... tum apne aap ko itna slick mat samjho.. aise galatfehmi se dur rehna warna pachtaoge
Arm – atleast mein tumhaare tarha stupid to nahi hu.. stupid terrorist attack.. what was that?
Rid – you.. you.. you’re a loser
Arm – atleast im not stupid!! STUPIDD!! (he exclaimed out loud)
Rid – your such an insensitive freak..
Saying that, ridz pushed armaan out of her room and closed the door on him... armaan was just trying to have some fun and play pranks.. but he realized that he went too far.. he started knocking on the door
Arm – basket!! Come on yaar... i was just joking... open the door
Ridz opened the door and walked towards the window and stood there...
Arm – itna ghussa kyu basket?? I already told you, i was just joking around with you.. i didn’t mean anything
Rid – but why do you always tease me? (ridz wasn’t really mad at him.. but she was also just playing around with him)
Arm – why you want me to tease other girls? (he said with naughtiness)
Rid – armaan!
Arm – accha sorry baba... ok turn around... look.. i’m holding my ears... i’m sowiee basket
Ridz turned around and say armaan’s cute face apologizing to her... ridz tried to stay angry but aws unable to.. she started laughing at his cuteness...
Arm – accha.. toh ms.riddhima gupta.. actually hone waali mrs.riddhima armaan mallik.. mujhe ullu bana rahi thi?
Rid – kyu.. sirf tum hi mujhe pareshaan kar sakte ho?
Ridz had come close to armaan to say that.. and armaan took the chance to take her hand and twist it behind her back...
Rid - armaan! Kya kar rahe ho?
Arm – armaan apni basket se pyaar kar raha hai...
Rid – chodo mujhe..
Arm – no way... tumhaara haath maine chod diya to phirse jungli billi ki tarha mere picche pad jaaogi
Rid – armaan!! Toh tumhe kya chahiye?
Arm – well.. tumhaare bail ke liye... there is an amount
Ridz smiled as she knew what he was talking about.. but she pretended to not understand him
Rid – aur yeh amount kya hai?
Arm – tumhe nahi pata?
Rid – waise toh nahi pata lekin agar nahi bata na chahte hai to main guess kar sakti hu./. you know im very good with gu... (armaan interrupted her)
Arm – just shut up and gimme a kiss
Rid – ohhhh.... really?
Armaan nodded and closed his eyes.. ridz took advantage and kicked armaan lightly in... (not that part =P) but the shin of his leg.. armaan let go of ridz and grabbed his shin.. whereas ridz just ran away...
Arm – thats not fair basket..
Ammy also went behind ridz... he was walking towards her.. nd had to yawn so he kept walking and closed his eyes.. suddenly.. he bumped into her
Arm – got you now basket...
Ridz didn’t reply so armaan got a bit worried..
Arm – ab kya hua basket? You feeling alright?
Ridz turned around... – you called me mrs.armaan mallik (she whispered softly)
Arm – toh shaadi ke baad tum mrs.mallik hi hogi na... obviously your not going to stay as mrs.riddhima gupta...
Rid – humaari shaadi hogi na armaan
Arm – haa.. kyun nahi?
Rid – armaan... lekin mere papa nahi maanege...
Armaan hugged ridz..
Arm – riddhima... chahe kuch bhi ho jaaye.. tum sirf meri ho aur sirf meri hi rahogi.. and about your dad, we will tell him all about us when we go back to india basket... tum kyun itni pareshaan ho rahi ho? Im sure woh mujhe pasand karte hai aur unhe koi aitraaz nahi hoga
Rid – you don’t know him armaan... paanch saal pehle bhi aisa hi hua tha di ke saath
Armaan moved his head back... – tumhaari di? I thought you were an only child
Rid – no... i have an older sister..
Arm – well.. uske bare main kuch kahogi nahi?
Rid – armaan.. der ho rahi hai.. hum kal baat karege.. theek hai
Arm – k.. (he looked at the clock) oh shit! Humaari presentation kal hai.. we have to get up ready and prepare.. goodnight basket..
Rid – goodnight armaan..
Armaan headed out to his room... ridz called out and stopped him..
Rid – i love you armaan
Arm – i love you too basket..
Rid – mujhe kabhi chod ke mat jaana...
Arm – tumhaari kismat itni acchi bhi nahi hai basket.. mujhse chutkaara itni aasaani se nahi paaogi...
Rids let out a small laugh..
Arm – you know what basket (walking towards her again) itni raat ko main tumhe akela nahi chod sakta hu.. (ridz kept stepping back when armaan was walking towards her so she slammed against the wall.. nd armaan pinned her) maybe i should stay in this room...
Armaan gazed at her eyes passionately.. deeply expressing his immense love for her... he guessed that ridz was probably getting uncomfortable so he started taking mini steps backwards... as soon as he took a few steps.. ridz said
Rid – i don’t mind armaan..
Arm – accha... itna bharosa?
Rid – khud se bhi zyada
Arm – agar maine tumhaare saath kuch galat kiya to?
Rid – i trust you completely armaan.. agar tum iss kamre main rehte bhi ho toh tum se zyada mujhe apne aap par vishwas nahi hoga... kyunki shayad main apni had paar na kardu
Arm – oyye hoyye... aaj tumhe mujhpar bahut pyaar aa raha hai?
Rid – pyaar to haroz karti hu tumse... sirf har baar izhaar nahi karti...
Arm – okay chill basket... ab to tum Juliet ki tarha baat kar rahi ho... aur tum toh Juliet kabhi ho hi nahi sakti
Rid – (she didn’t expect armaan to say that) kyu? Main Juliet kyun nahi ho sakti?
Arm – tum Juliet isliye nahi hosakti... (coming closer to her once again) kyunki Juliet ki prem kahaani main romeo aur Juliet alag hote hai... aur hum.. hum toh puuri zindagi ek saath guzaarege na basket?
Rid – (she smiled) haa
Armaan took riddhima’s forehead and gave her a kiss...
Arm – chalo ab soo jao... warna kal ki presentation mujhe akele karni padegi...
Rid – goodnight armaan... i love you... again.. (she giggled)
Arm – luv you too basket..
Armaan went to his room.. ridz shut her room door.. and both went to sleep peacefully, glad that they have each other in their lives.

Part 7: A Burdened Love

I am HERE!! Hug Jhappis and Pappis everyone. Here is part 7 of A Burdened Love. I know I am errm... how late.... VERY LATE SORRY!!, but circumstances where as such, which I do not want to dwell into, nonetheless I AM HERE, with the latest update part 7 of A Burdened Love. I myself had to re-read all the previous parts to remember exactly where I had left off, and if your memory is as bad as mine, I guess you might have to do the same . But if you have super memory then by all means READ On!!

It picks up where the last part left off, Armaan and Abhi trying to figure out what exactly happened the night of the fire, and Shashanks hand in this. And Armaan and Riddhima's past is revealed!! Oh yeah and before you read on, there is something which some may find confusing, I have incorporated a flashback within another flashback. Sorry for the confusion, but it was necessary. And yes this is the last of flashbacks you will be seeing (I thinkLOL). And in part 8 the story will be moving forwards, not backwards. And finally before I let you read, this is the longest part I have written till date, On Microsoft Word it came to a grand total of 7 and a quarter pages!! So you if you get bored do not complain. You asked for it, you asked for a LONG part, and I am giving you one (to all those who complain LOL)

Never Leave You

Flashback*- Greyscale
An overhead projector emits lights on the whiteboard projecting statistical data and imagery in a conference room in Singapore. Armaan is in the course of his presentation, with seventeen pairs of eyes glued to him as he is representing Sanjeevani with a flawless presentation. Just as he is nearing the end of his presentation the receptionist knocks on the door and enters without waiting for a response from inside the conference room.
Everybody in the conference room turns around as the door opens
Receptionist: ‘Dr Mallik, there is a phone call for you’
Armaan A little annoyed as he was nearing the completion of his presentation before he was interrupted ‘Can it not wait; I just need to conclude’...
Receptionist interrupts Armaan talking: ‘I am sorry sir, but the lady on the other end said it was an emergency and was saying all sorts of things in Hindi. I could hear a lot of noise’.
Armaan: ‘Excuse me ladies and gentlemen; I will be back shortly, sorry for any inconvenience this has caused’
Armaan exits the conference room with the receptionist.
Armaan thinking Zaroor Muskaan haungi– Uski hindi aur uski chappad chappad. Wrong timing equals Muskaan. Pehli baar jab Milan me conference dera tha tab uska phone aya tha kehne ke liye Rahul ne usko ‘I Love You’ bola, ab pata nahi ab kya chaye haunga? ‘ Shayad Rahul ne usko finally propse kiya.
Armaan asking the receptionist: ‘May I ask what is the name of the lady that has phoned?’
Receptionist: ‘Some lady called Mus.. Mus.. Musk’
Armaan: Muskaan right?
Receptionist: Yes that’s the one. A very loud spoken women she is
They both laughed.
They reached the desk. The receptionist went back to filing her paper work and Armaan picked up the phone
Armaan (Whispering):Bol Muskaan, kya hain meh itne important meeting me hoon aur tu aur teri wrong timing
Muskaan (trying to prevent tears from spilling): Armaan... Armaan
Armaan: (Getting even more annoyed): ‘Kya hain Muskaan? ... Muje pata hain Armaan mere naam hain. Meri Mom ne raka tha. Mere naam ke alawa kuch aur bol ne ka hain to bol netau me jaa ra hoon’
Muskaan: ‘Armaan... Aahana...’
Tears began spilling from her eyes
Armaan (Alert as Muskaan stated Aahana’s name. And why on earth was Muskaan crying). Tension was masking the atmosphere as the mere seconds passed. ‘Aahana kya Muskaan, what’s wrong? Is she okay? And what is all this noise in the background?’ He thought he could hear fire engine sirens.
Muskaan: ‘Armaan, Aahana... Dr Shashank’
Armaan (No longer whispering but shouting): ‘For Goodness Sake Muskaan. Tell me what the hell is wrong, you’re scaring me.’
The occupants in the office all turned around and stared at Armaan. A guy eating a sandwich had taken a bite and was not chewing as he was shocked with all the shouting. The receptionist had dropped all her paperwork due to the shout and office workers were peeping out the blinds from their respective offices as to what was going on.
Muskaan: ‘Armaan aag lagi haye Dr Shashank ke ghar par. Jaldi waapis aa.’
Armaan dropped the cordless phone. He need not be told twice to return back to India. All that could be seen was Armaan running outside the glass doors of the building as the wind fiercely caressed his cheeks due to the speed he was running at and the sheets of paper floating gently that the receptionist had dropped. The occupants of the office were left with perplexed expressions plastered across their faces as to what they had just witnessed.
*Flashback Ends*
Present Situation Armaan and Abhi sitting on the bench outside Sanjeevani
Armaan (sighing): ‘That is all I remember. What use that is though?’
Abhi: ‘Again Armaan I can understand how hard all this is for you, but you may not realise you have said something, that could lead us to the core of what has happened’
Armaan (mystified): Huh? What. I don’t remember saying anything as such, that could give us clues as to what is happening.
Abhi: Yes you have, but you haven’t realised. Try and remember. You said that when Riddhima called you back to inform you that Dr Shashank had agreed to baby sit Aahana, he was very happy. This is contradicting how his mood was in the morning of the veneration. He was very moody and would not talk to anybody. Not even Riddhima or Anjali. Moreover, by the time we had reached the Gupta residence where the fire was spreading, Dr Shashank was out of the house, but Aahana was nowhere to be seen. He came up to me pleading to get Aahana out of the building, and he kept repeating ‘I didn’t mean for this to happen, please get Riddhimas daughter out of there. Please’. His face was plastered with this indescribable expression. I couldn’t quite make out whether he was scared or guilty, and I didn’t have time to try and figure it out, because I was in too much of a rush to get Aahana out of the burning house.
Armaan shuddered at the last 6 words of his sentence.
Armaan: ‘Abhimanyu, so what you think this could be....’
He couldn’t gather the courage to say it
Abhi: ‘Armaan I am not saying anything, but yes there is a possibility that this accident wasn’t as accidental as it seems... I mean first his contradicting moods during the day, then that expression which still haunts me, and now his disappearance by the time I had managed to take Aahana out of the house.
Armaan was left dumbstruck..
After a prolonged silence
Armaan: ‘Abhimanyu Modi you cannot be serious. He is a father himself’.
Abhimanyu: ‘Yes Armaan, but do not forget, YOU are the father of Aahana’.
Armaan: ‘ Abhi but ki..ki..kill. I can’t even say it because the idea itself is so horrendous. Trying to kill Aahana would be like killing Riddhima, his own daughter.
Abhimanyu (replying abruptly):‘Face facts. Times are changing and so are people.’
Armaan shaking head despair: Abhi, you must be mistaken.
Abhimanyu:‘Armaan it’s futile arguing about this with you. You and I would be here all day. I for one am not saying he did try to intentionally hurt Aahana, but what I am saying is learn to be a little more open minded.
Armaan didn’t reply
Abhimanyu: Moreover, this wouldn’t be the first time that something bad has happened to you, and Doctor Shashank again is in the picture.
Armaan: Anyway I think we should get going back up to the hospital now.
Abhi: Yeah I think you are right.
Silence suspended the air as both men continued to walk towards Sanjeevani. Abhimanyu was left in deep thoughts trying his level best to fix the mismatching parts to this puzzle and Dr Shashanks part in this whole case, whereas Armaans musings wondered in a completely different direction.
Armaan went straight back to the ICU waiting are where Riddhima was waking up and Niki left them both with a smile. She gave Armaan a brief hug and left to the door where Abhimanyu was waiting for her.
In the waiting area, Riddhima was waking up. She could feel the vast pressure under her eyes preventing her from opening her eyes properly. Only one word could capture her physical strength at this time, and that was drained. It was as if somebody had vacuumed out her living existence, and left her with all the miserable feeling which existed in this cruel world.
Riddhima (Tired with her eyes half open) ‘Armaan...’
Armaan – ‘Yes baby I’m here. He gently removed his jacket from beneath her head’
He went and sat beside her, and she snuggled up to his chest spilling silent sobs creating a damp patch on his shirt. They intertwined their fingers and stared into the uninviting deep green curtain of the operation theatre, whilst Abhimanyu’s words were playing in Armaans head as her remembered the previous time when Dr Shashank nearly broke his life apart. Armaan fell into a reverie of his past with Riddhima and the hurdles they once faced to reach where they are today.

*Flashback *
Riddhima and Armaan had started dating six months after they met. It was their fairytale story. Well not everybody would class it as your average classical ‘fairytale’. It was hate at first sight. They drove each other mad. Riddhima would do something to annoy Armaan, and Armaan inevitably would get back at her. Months lapsed and eventually this ‘hate’ blossomed into a beautiful friendship. They both knew we were, and would be more than just friends and it was then they both realised we loved each other. During the period of these six months they thought they had got to know one another very well. Well at least they thought we did. Their co-interns and friends were at first shocked when they told them that there were together as a couple, however gradually they accepted them. Riddhima had forbidden anybody telling her father as both she and Armaan knew he would never accept of it, well not with the personal reputation Armaan had. However, Riddhima had a feeling that she knew her father knew, but he never said anything.

It was another one of those days. Lately Armaan and Riddhima had been bickering over the smallest of things, they either shouted at one another or didn’t speak full stop.

Armaan and Riddhima were alone in the Locker Room. Armaan was trying to converse with Riddhima after another one of their minor ‘arguments’ from the previous nights. Despite his attempts he remained unsuccessful.

Riddhima: ‘Armaan, please stop it. If I am ignoring you then that obviously means I am in no mood to talk to you hmph!’ – And she looked away
Armaan: ‘Riddhima, meri baat to suno ek baar suno toh seh’.
Riddhima just turns around and busies herself with the file which she withdrew from her locker, pretending to read the case study
Armaan attempts once more. He placed his palm on Riddhimas shoulder and tries to get her to face him, however she shrugs him off. ‘Please baby meri baat toh suno’
Riddhimas was getting angry and she let her steam loose: ‘For Goodness Sake Armaan LEAVE ME, go speak to the person who seems much more important than me. I mean you seem to spend most of your free time somewhere else, and it seems like you’ve been avoiding me.’

During Riddhimas shouting at Armaan, their co-interns Atul, Anjali, Niki, Rahul and Muskaan walked in shocked to see Riddhima shouting and that too at Armaan.

Armaan: ‘Come on Riddhima, you know that’s not true’
Riddhima: Do I Armaan? Do I? I don’t even think I know you? Why would you ask me to be part of my life if you’re going to keep all these secrets? Whenever I ask you where you go in your free time, you just avoid my questions, and we end up fighting.’

‘I’m fed up Armaan. If this is love. Then...’

Armaan (exasperated): Riddhima. Then what Riddhima?

Riddhima: ‘Then... then I guess... I guess... I don’t love you... This was never my perception of love.’

All the interns in the Locker Room gasped. They all knew how much Armaan loved Riddhima. They way he would take care of her smallest needs, but they were also were aware of the fact that both of them had been quarrelling over the past few weeks.

This was enough for Armaan. To have his love doubted by Riddhima and that too for no reason. He fiercely removed his hand of Riddhimas shoulder as if it burned, the same way each word she spoke scorched a fresh hole in his heart.

Armaan (Very Quietly but audible for the occupants in the Locker Room): Sometimes I wish, you would trust me. I mean I thought I had that much right, but I guess I was wrong.
And saying that he left

Riddhima felt so ashamed for what she had said that the sobs began to build, and both Anjali and Niki were having a hard time trying to pacify her.

Niki: ‘I better go and check on Armaan, in case he does something silly. You know what his temper can get like...’

This made Riddhima sob harder.

Niki saw Armaan at the medicine counter. Armaan was talking to the pharmacist with a stress ridden face.
Armaan: ‘Has the medicine arrived?’ He asked and sighed brushing his hand through his hair.
Pharmacist: ‘Yes Armaan Sir. Let me just take it out. Here you go.’

The pharmacist handed Armaan the small brown medicine bottle. Whilst handing Armaan the medicine bottle, Armaan realised Niki was standing behind him so he quickly hid the label of the bottle in the palm of his hand, shoving

Niki mentally noted that this action of Armaan looked rather strange, yet she did not say anything. She shrugged it off and tried to strike a normal conversation with him.

Niki: ‘Armaan...’

Armaan: ‘Niki, not now I have to go’ (as his voice trailed off)

Niki: ‘ But Armaan’

Armaan: ‘I got to go’ and he walked off out of Sanjeevani and went to his car as Niki watched.

Armaan is sitting in his car at the traffic signal. He pulls out the bottle of pills out of his pocket, which he had slipped into his pocket, trying to hide from Niki. Looking at them he reflects on the day which he made an oath to Padma Aunty.

*flashback within flashback*

Armaan was visiting a neighbouring hospital ‘City Link’, to attend an annual oncology meeting. On his way out of the meeting he saw Sister Padma sitting isolated on a chair with reports in her hand and a lone tear rolling down her pallid cheek. He abruptly walked up to her. He tried communicating with her, but it was as if she were unable to hear him. He saw a set of reports in her hands, read them, and then gasped.

Armaan: ‘Heart disease’
He hugged Nurse Padma, and it was only then she realised Armaan was beside her.
Padma (with a confused yet quizzical expression on her face): ‘Armaan, tum yaha?’
Armaan: ‘Aunty, aapne pehle kyun nahu bataiya? Meh tumhe Sanjeevani saath... All of a sudden Armaan stopped and said ‘Riddhima’ Riddhima ko patha...’

Padma:(Regained full awareness of the situation- shouting)- ‘NO!’

Armaan kept mum.

Padma: ‘Armaan, you cannot, you MUST not tell anybody.’

Armaan: ‘Par Aunty yeh toh...’

Padma: ‘No Armaan. No. You must not tell anybody! You must swear on my life, that you will not tell anybody’

Armaan: reluctantly agreeing as he did not want to get her stressed. ‘Main kisi ko nahi bolunga, par Aunty aap yeh kyun kar rahe hai?’

Padma (smiling a little): ‘Armaan, I’m living for my family. Just like any other day. With the time I have left I do not want spend it in a miserable atmosphere with my family plastering fake faces, every time they see me. I do not want anybody to know. I love the way my life is barring the illness, my life is perfect. I have a wonderful family and wonderful friends, what more could I want. She put the pain in her pocket and pulled out a smile. Death is predestined for all of us Armaan.’

Armaan: ‘But how will you hide this from everyone?’

Padma: ‘Shashank and the girls know I have severe asthma, which in actual fact I do. So they know I cannot walk very fast, or run or do anything which requires a lot of energy as I become short of breath very quickly, and they will continue to believe this.’

Armaan (understanding her finally): ‘Par Aunty...’ he felt uncomfortable asking, but he needed to know... ‘Aunty tt..tt..time...’

Padma (smiling faintly understanding what he felt uncomfortable asking): ‘Armaan, I don’t have very much time (Armaans face fell upon hearing this), that’s is why I got a little upset until you came and cheered me up. I’m glad I was able to confide in you and I know I will not have to worry about my Riddhima once I am gone.’ (Armaans expression changed from sorrow, to mock horror and completed the transition of facial expressions with a face conveying plain embarrassment)

Armaan: ‘Aunty aap ko....’
Padma: (interrupting before letting him finish): ‘Ab pucho mat mujhe kaise pata... You know I knew about you and Riddhima from the very beginning. Please, you and Riddhima and were never meant to be just ‘good-friends’ as you both keep telling me. Armaan I am aware of the fact Shashank doesn’t like the idea of you and Riddhima, in actual fact, he is very possessive over our daughters, but I couldn’t be happier to say that my Riddhima is very lucky to have somebody like you in her life. I know you will keep her happy.’

Armaan felt embarrassed but it felt like a huge weight had been lifted after Padma had said her daughter was lucky to have him, this was one thing he was always afraid of that Riddhimas parents would not accept him. Yes Shashank had not accepted him, but at least Padma Aunty had.

Armaan: ‘Aunty meh...’

Padma just smiled

Armaan: ‘Aunty, Thank You so much. I promise I will take care of Riddhima, and I promise I will not tell anybody about your condition until after... Par meri ek condition hain’ he said with a serious expression.

Padma felt a little tense

Armaan broke into a smile and said: You will allow me to bring the pain medication to you twice a week to reduce the pain.

Padma too broke into a smile. She ruffled his hair.

*flashback within flashback ends*

The traffic light turned the green go signal. He put the pills back into his pocket and drove to the Gupta Residence to give Padma her pain medication. A heavy tension seemed to loom in the atmosphere. As he entered the house he couldn’t smell the usual scent of Padma aunts delicious cooking from the kitchen, nor could he hear her usual melodious humming. In fact the atmosphere had an eerie quality to it. The lights were dimmed. Armaan felt a lurch in his stomach and his eyes quickly looked for Padma Aunty. He found her lying on the sofa and he rushed to her side.

Armaan: ‘Padma Aunty...’

Padma (very weakly) ‘Armaan, I am so glad you came. Thank You so much for everything you have done for me over this last month. Keeping this secret concealed, not telling anybody, bringing my pain medication’ she said running short of breath and wheezing

With tears pouring down his cheek he quickly took out the pills from his pocket opened the cap of the bottle of pills and took them out to give to Padma Aunt however, she shook her head in refusal.

Padma: ‘They won’t do anything anymore Armaan. I can already feel the pain fading.....’

Armaan dropped the pills from his hand onto the marble white floor beside the sofa.

Tears continuously pouring down his cheek ‘Aunty please....’ Having witnessed his own mother’s death, the experience had already left him haunted and now he was watching Padma Aunty die, and again there was nothing he could do.

Padma: ‘Armaan kitchen ke cupboard meh coffee cups ke piche maine teen envelopes rakhe hain, please kya tum voh mere liye laa sakte hain’

Armaan without thinking he got up and ran to the kitchen. He found the envelopes and ran back to Padma Aunty and placed them in her palm.

She smiled one last time, and closed her eyes

Armaan froze. He simply knelt there beside Padma Aunty simply staring. His pager rang from Sanjeevani innumerable times but he did not respond.

It was 8 ‘o’ clock when Shashank, Anjali, Riddhima and Niki (who was staying with the Gupta’s) returned home. And were shocked at the sight at their arrival. Armaan kneeling with a bottle of pills in his hand. They all ran up to where Armaan was. Shashank pushed past Armaan and the bottle of pills fell from his hand.

Shashank shook Padma’s body, to see whether she would wake up. Riddhima and Anjali just stood there and watched their lifeless mother. Niki on the other hand was looking at the bottle of pills which were revolving on the floor.

Shashank turned around 90 degrees and began shouting at Armaan.

Shashank: ‘What did you do? Answer me!’

Armaan kept mum

Shashank bellowing and shaking Armaans shoulders vigorously ‘I SAID ANSWER ME!!’

Armaan still didn’t say anything and continued looking at Padma.

Niki then spoke up: ‘Armaan these pills... These pills... I saw you taking them from the pharmacy after you had a fight with Riddhima.’

Armaan finally ‘awoke’ from his frozen trance after hearing pills, fight and Riddhima. He quickly looked up. His lips quivered... ‘PPPP....Pad... Padma Aunty’

Niki: Armaan what’s going on?

There was silence in the room. Shashank snatched picked up the bottle of pills. Anjali moved aside from her mother’s lifeless body and went to stand next to her father whilst Riddhima kept rubbing Padma’s hand as to try and awaken her.

Niki, Shashank, Anjali and Riddhima began staring at Armaan.
Armaan: Huh? Why are you looking at me like this?

Niki: ‘Armaan you are a Doctor. You by giving such strong pain medication to a person for no reason can instantly kill them. But what I don’t get is why? Nikis brain was working overtime and she was blurting what came to mind. You were cross with Riddhima, you and Riddhima were arguing so what.... so you came and hurt Padma Aunty, who loves everyone.’

Armaan just stood there staring at Niki, as a numb feeling drenched his body head to toe.

Shashank: ‘You bas*&$%, you killed my wife. You gave her a drug overdose of heart pain medication, even though she doesn’t have heart problems. You make me sick! You killed my wife! What disgusts me more is that last night, just last night she was considering you as good person to marry our Riddhima. I had my doubts that you two were dating, but I never said anything, but now I’m sure my daughter can see your true colours. What was it Niki said, you and Riddhima had were arguing, and you took out your anger by killing her mother. By this point Riddhima was dumbfounded. Shashank looking at Riddhima now, Can you see Riddhima, Can you see what Armaan really is like. He killed your mother. The bas*&$% you thought you loved killed your mother.’ Anjali by this point swallowed her tears, and gave a piercing glare at Armaan. Her green eyes screaming murderer even though she herself said nothing. From every angle accusations were being hurled at Armaan.

Niki: ‘Armaan you better go’

Armaan: ‘But.. But.. I didn’t’

Riddhima had a feeling that there was more than what was being told and that Armaan was not in the wrong but due to the ‘evidence’ and her father she was reluctant. Armaan pleaded with his eyes. She turned her head away, her face depicting fury and that was enough for him. He had got his answer.

Shashank grabbed Armaan by the collar and hurled him out of his house. Armaan feel onto the gravel outside the house his hands touching the stone. Whilst inside the Gupta house Riddhima had just found the three envelopes in her mother’s other hand.

Time passed in a blur over the next few days. Everybody was busy conducting preparations for the funeral, where as Armaan had not come back to Sanjeevani. After everybody had found out the truth after reading Padma’s letters addressed to Shashank, Anjali and Riddhima; everybody felt guilty for hurling such accusations at Armaan without giving him the chance to speak. Barring Shashank who was still vindictive as to why Armaan had known about Padma’s condition and his wife hadn’t told him. He still disliked Armaan. Niki felt deeply guilty, she left countless missed calls on Armaans mobile. Atul, Rahul and Muskaan were both sad due to Padma’s death, but angry at why everybody had accused Armaan. All three set to look for Armaan, but their attempts stood fruitless. Riddhima on the other hand had stopped crying. She was frozen. She wouldn’t talk, nor would she eat. She had two thoughts running in her mind. First her mother’s death and secondly Armaans face haunted her; the face when he was pleading with his eyes for her to believe him but she didn’t.

The day of the funeral arrived, and there was still no sign of Armaan, so everybody proceeded to the funeral without him.

Whilst the pyre was being lit, Armaan dressed in white came and stood right behind Riddhima. Nobody dare uttered a word as they saw him approach. His eyes staged stillness, He did not blink. After some time he put his hand forward and Riddhima reciprocated and placed her hand in his strong secure palm, and they both stood there. Their eyes fixated at the flames. Riddhima tightened her grasp, to convey a meaningful sorry. And she knew she was safe and he had forgiven her.

*Flashback Ends *

Present situation in the ICU waiting room
Armaan felt Riddhima tighten her grasp on his hand and he broke away from his reverie. She looked up at him and gently asked ‘You okay?’ he replied ‘I’m fine, don’t worry Riddhima we will get through this, Aahana will be fine’.

Phew I hope you are all alive, after reading that, I nearly died after writing it. And the usual please comment, criticize, so I know you have read
